Yes, it was a 18th birthday present in May this year.  My twin sister Debs got a Golf Gti.

Hi Babs,

Welcome to SciroccoWorld, sorry for the late welcome we have been away on holiday.

It is brilliant to have another female on board, don't let the fellas stop you asking any questions, remember no question is a silly question if you don't know the answer.

Have you checked out the discount thread in 'General'? joining is totally free and should help to save money whilst doing servicing, repairs and the general running costs of your car.

Happy Roccoing

Hi Heather, happy to be a member and thanks for the welcome - you seem like a very warm-hearted person.  I did have a question - can a car be considered as a fashion accessory?  Debs thinks so - her Golf is finished in high-gloss black with privacy glass all round and Momo wheels.  The interior is black alcantara and looks very sexy just like she does.

Hi Babs,

Thank you, I like to try and treat everyone equally no matter what.

Yes I guess it can, certainly a car is considered to be a statement about you, Roccos are reliable, sporty, the colour sometimes, the boys tend to prefer the greys and black colours, personally I have a white [Junk my daily driver] and a green Mk2 [Lady LHD 16v], whilst hubby has a green Mk2 [Doc his daily driver] and a blue Mk1 [Toy mostly restored now].

Are you going to NEC, what part of the country are you?

Love the rims, u cant beat a bit of " DISH ".
CAnt seem to get my head round the paint thou. Dont worry bout your sister and her MK1. I have a mk1 golf and I get a lot more comments if I take my rocco for a blast. It may be worth more but really they dont look as good.
And cars do say a lot about the person, My daily driver is an old range rover. Heavy and un reliable, but always get there in the end

Hi Heather, I only read your reply on Sunday on return from Florida and I totally agree with everything you say about lifestyle choices. Only a real enthusiast would own 4 of these wonderful cars, you are so, so lucky. Dad bought mine from Celeste "stylist to the stars" (She told him one of her clients was Paris Hilton). Anyway she had a Bichon Frise (small dog a bit like a powder-puff) but in a moment of madness she had its fluffy white coat dyed to look like a tricolor (French flag). Paris's chihuahua took against the new-look Bichon and it sometimes had to stay in the car in the underground car-park. I literally spent days hoovering fine pink, white and blue dog hair from the crushed-strawberry velour upholstery. We are based in Essex but travel a lot. Anyone living in or around Colchester might have noticed a photo of us with our VWs in the local press earlier in the summer. Debs is the one in the lilac hot-pants sitting on top of the Golf with her legs through the sunroof. I'm a big fan of the Suzi Perry look and tend to wear black leather myself, although when we are working together, we often have to wear identical outfits.

Hi Babs,

Have you thought of writting to the DVLA for a small fee it was £5.00, DVLA will sent the registered keeper of a car all they know on it, photocopies of change of keeper,  all sorts of information even if it has had a change of numberplate.

It would be good to see some more photos of your car, if you ever in the Hampshire, Surrey, Berkshire area we are not far from where the counties all meet.

Hi Babs,
Wow!! Your rocco really seems to have quite an interesting background. It would be really worthwhile looking up the past details from the DVLA as Heather suggested, Let us know what ya find out. Apart from the paint job, those gorgeous wheels and the crushed strawberry interior, do you have any other mods done? What engine is running your lil beaut?

Thanks for your interest Brian. Although she looks really hot, under the bonnet she’s basically an unmodified 1.8 automatic although she has got  a stainless exhaust  with possibly a loose baffle or 2 , judging by the rorty sound she makes at higher revs.  Insurance companies really hammer new drivers, especially teenagers, so I’ll have to wait a few years before getting anything with real performance.  One weekend in the summer we took our cars to Snetterton and after the days racing was over and almost everyone had gone home dad set up a quarter mile drag race for us.  Unsurprisingly, my rocco led all the way probably due to her more streamlined shape.  Debs was gutted. Hi Babs,
We dont have the same restrictions with mods over here as you guys have in the uk, basicaly if it passes the nct (mot) there isnt much bother with the insurance ...as long as ya dont go too mental. Cops are pretty strict on the loud exhausts though. What engine is in Deb's car? Is it automatic too? Have ya thought of a K&N air filter, It would be a great addition to your exhaust...itll make it breath a lil easier and isnt very expensive to do and you could fit it yourself quite easily, adding roughly 3to5 bhp. Im not sure if the carb will need a lil tweek too with a k&n but your in the right place to find out.

Hi Bryan,
You asked about Deb's car, well it started life as a 1.8 GL auto and was kept by its first lady owner for 8 years and then passed to her son.  He must have transferred parts from a GTI donor car to convert it to a GTI-look-alike, but all the oily bits stayed the same.  Then the 3rd owner of Deb's Golf had it resprayed and fitted with a leather interior and Bose Hifi.  I think its original power was around 90bhp but this could well be down to 60 after 18 years.  We hope to get both cars onto a dynamometer when we have more free time in January and then spend some of our Christmas money on getting things right in the engine bay.

Has it been photoshopped pink?

It looks like Yaz'z rocco (since he has the same wheels) except photoshopped pink.

Do you have any other photos?

Probably about a month ago, we were in Bulgaria and with a couple of hours to kill at the airport, I wanted to check my email.  I’d paid for an hour and you know how it goes, one idea leads to another and I put in Scirocco and found your website.  Anyway I joined the group and decided to post a photo of my car but without a laptop or USB thingy what-to-do? Then I remembered my favorite search tool stores things for months and so I googled the ebay ad and found its picture still on the web. I didn’t notice at the time, but the wheels do look a bit different from mine so I suppose Celeste’s boyfriend must have used a stock photo. We are now making a portfolio of pictures of us and our VWs on Flickr and as soon as its finished, I’ll post a link.
