This is the members forum for Scirocco World, our homepage is at www.sciroccoworld.org.uk
Top Post By swspyderman (1 thumbs up):
The way I have posted photos is as follows.
Log onto the forum and click on the Start new topic.
Put the title you want for the photos as the subject line.
At the bottom of the editor text window is a button labelled "Upload files", click on this.
You will get a standard File Open dialogue box displayed, showing the folders on your own computer.
Find the photo image you want to load, then either double click the file name or select the file and click the Open button.
The loading progress will be displayed in percent until when fully loaded the file name will be displayed.
To add more photos, simply repeat the upload, photos will appear in the order they are loaded.
Finally, at the bottom of the page, select Members photos as the forum topic to post in, then click the "Submit Post" button.
NOTES
You must have Flash Player loaded and enabled.
Large files WILL fail, max allowed size is 1.8Mb but I would recommend much smaller, the largest I have put up so far is 122Kb but most are less than 100Kb, still gives more than enough resolution for internet display. If you don't know how to resize your photos, most photo editing programs have a method for this.

Re: running like a pig !

gt2-01's description of the waxstat is correct, but the waxstat can fail in one of 2 ways, either it doesn't open the throttle at all or it leaves it open a little all the time, to cause an increase when warm would mean that it had reversed its operation, as it works on temperature expansion this is very unlikely.
As to other possibilities, I would suggest that first you check all the vacum hoses, if there is a leak there that shows up more when the engine is hot, that would increase speed by operating the throttle plate actuator, the large disc like part on the drivers side of the carb. This normanlly opens the throttle until enough vacum is produced to pull it back in, if you then lost the vacum it would open again. To check the hoses you will have to take them off and examine them carefully, they will develop cracks in the rubber not easily visible on the car.
Hope this helps, will try to think of other suggestions if not.

Re: engine swap wiring problems
October 7, 2009 by swspyderman
Hi Chris,
I'm not as good on injected Roccos as Carb models, but I do know that the correct fuel pressure is very important for good running. Smaller size fuel lines could reduce the pressure, but only likely when the engine is working hard, so that is probably not the immediate problem.
The behaviour sound like either some sort of restricted fuel flow, or a problem with the vacuum lines.
It could just be a blocked fuel filter in the tank, or some sort damage/blockage to the fuel lines, especially before the pump. This would mean good pressure at the start, but when fuel was used, the pump would be starved of fuel and not supply enough pressure.
It could also be a problem with the vacuum lines in that as soon as the engine starts to accelerate, it alters the ignition/fuel settings and cause loss of power.
In both situations speed will drop, the situation improve, and the engine will try again, classic kangaroo effect.
Hope this gives you some ideas, but don't give up, the end result will be worth the effort, it is a Rocco after all.

Re: Stuck soleniod???? HELP!!!!
September 28, 2009 by swspyderman
When you say disconnected, do you mean electrically? If so then you have a fault in the electrical system, and a hammer won't help. At the best, hitting with a hammer will only be temporary, it won't cure the fault and could easily cause more serious damage and problems.
If it is mechanical, try soaking the area with WD40 or similar, this might free up the solenoid mechanism, then use some ordinary light oil to lubricate it again.
If it electrical, come back with any details and I will try to suggest where the problem might be.

Re: wheel bolt covers
September 24, 2009 by swspyderman
Hi Dave
Don't know if Sharan or Passat wheel bolt covers will fit a Scirocco, but until very recently the correct ones were still availble from VW, they are certainly available from http://www.volkswagen-classic-parts.de/ , I got some recently. Think they are cheaper from there, but if that's all you get the extra costs for postage and packing will outweigh the difference.

Re: Over-active idle

We went to look at the car last night, it's a 1.6 automatic with a Pierburg 2E2 carb. The problem is that the throttle actuator, the large vacum disc on the side, stays in the cold start position holding the throttle open even when the engine warms up. More detailed investigation as to exactly why is planned over the weekend.
